Sanwo-Olu welcomes, presents gifts to first babies of 2024

In a heartwarming New Year tradition, the wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, visited four public health facilities to extend warm welcomes and present gift items to the first babies born in the year 2024.

The healthcare centers that received the First Lady’s visit were Badagry General Hospital in Badagry, Maternal Child Centre in Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi General Hospital, and Apapa General Hospital.

At Badagry General Hospital, Baby Echo-Harry, a male, entered the world at 12:04 am, weighing 3.6kg.

Meanwhile, at the Maternal and Child Centre in Amuwo-Odofin, Mrs. Salaudeen delivered twin boys through a caesarean section.

The first child arrived at 12:07 am, weighing 3.0kg, followed by the second at 12:09 am, weighing 3.05 kg.

Baby Balogun, a male, emerged as the first newborn at Ajeromi General Hospital at 12:01 am, weighing 2.9 kg.

At Apapa General Hospital, Baby Rafiu, a male, secured the first baby title at 12:38 am, weighing 2.6 kg.

Expressing her joy and gratitude, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu extended felicitations to the parents and the healthcare teams involved.

She highlighted the significance of newborns, stating, “Newborn babies signify precious blessings, hope, new beginnings, and the resilience of life.”

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu commended the Lagos State Government’s efforts, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to maternal and child health policies and programs.

She also acknowledged the continuous upgrade of facilities, provision of relevant equipment, and the dedication to human capacity development within the healthcare sector.

“As a government, we are committed to creating an environment where every child will strive perfectly like their counterparts in developed countries, where quality healthcare services will be accessible and equitable using appropriate modern technology through highly motivated healthcare workers,” the First Lady affirmed.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, expressed gratitude to God for the annual event’s significance in promoting maternal and child health across Lagos.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing maternal, neonatal, and child mortality rates, highlighting the establishment of 11 modern maternal and child care centres equipped with advanced facilities and skilled healthcare professionals.
