Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on young men and women in the state to take part in the ongoing recruitment into the Nigerian Army, saying the military now offers more than just combat roles.
The governor made the appeal on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the palace of the Olofin of Isheri Olofin. He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
She said, “It is time for all stakeholders to rethink their perceptions of military careers. Today’s Army offers vast opportunities beyond the battlefield, with technology, education, and career development now forming integral parts of service life.”
The meeting included youths, parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and artisans. The aim was to encourage young people to see the benefits of joining the military.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that registration for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake for tradesmen and non-tradesmen will close on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
“Enlisting in the military not only allows one to serve the nation with pride but also opens doors to professional training in fields such as law, medicine, and aeronautics,” he added.
He assured that the Lagos State Government would continue to support eligible candidates from the state who are interested in joining the Army.
In response, the Olofin of Isheri Olofin, Oba Olasunkanmi Lawal-Bello, praised the initiative and promised to encourage youths in his community to consider military service.
“I commend Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and the THEMES+ Agenda, which I also align with, especially in the areas of education and healthcare,” the monarch said.
