Sanwo-Olu pledges support to Nigerian red cross society

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State affirmed his commitment to assisting the Nigerian Red Cross Society in fulfilling its humanitarian objectives during an event hosted by the NRCS Lagos Branch.

At the event themed “Investiture of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Platinum Members/Patrons,” Governor Sanwo-Olu was honored with the title of patron of the NRCS, alongside distinguished individuals including Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, Dr. Jide Idris, Dr. Abayomi Finnih, Erelu Abiola Dosumu, Mrs. Bintu Tinubu, and Mrs. Elizabeth Alonge.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Governmen, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the pivotal role played by the Red Cross in humanitarian efforts, acknowledging the society’s indispensable contributions to the community.

“We cannot do it all. Thank God for organisations like the Red Cross.

“We are proud of the Nigerian Red Cross,” he said.

He lauded the caliber of individuals recognized as patrons and platinum members, affirming their dedication to societal welfare without seeking governmental favors, reflecting hope for Nigeria’s future.

Former Lagos Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, emphasized the critical importance of humanitarian services, particularly amidst prevailing challenges in the country. He pledged his support to NRCS, leveraging his resources and networks to advance its mission.

“At this time in our country, this is when we need the Red Cross the most.

“We’re talking of human security, health security, all require humanitarian services and this is the time for us to leverage this,” he said.

Lagos State Chairman of NRCS, Mrs. Adebola Kolawole, expressed optimism about learning from the wealth of experience of the awardees. She appealed to philanthropists and corporate entities to join hands with the Red Cross in providing essential humanitarian services, including disaster response and community aid.
