Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday welcomes the Super Eagles as they make their return to Lagos for the first time in 20 years.
Sanwo-Olu made this known in a statement released on his verified Twitter handle ahead of Nigeria’s game against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
The governor revealed his plans to make Lagos the home of Nigeria’s sports teams.
He also congratulated Gernot Rohr’s team for securing qualification to the 2022 African Cup of Nations tournament holding in Cameroon next year.
Sanwo-Olu revealed his excitement at the return of the Super Eagles to Lagos and urged Nigerians to cheer the team all the way.
“I am excited as for the first time in 20 years, we witness the homecoming of our dear Super Eagles as they play their AFCON qualifier at our state soccer home ground, the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
“Sports is an important part of our THEMES agenda for Lagos.
“We have invested in developing our sports infrastructure, setting forward a clear mandate and plan to ensure Lagos is the number one destination for all our sports teams.
“We have supported the Super Eagles in their journey to this AFCON and I congratulate them on qualifying.
“As you watch the match in your homes or as a guest at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, please cheer on the #SuperEaglesHomecoming as we take sports in Lagos to the next level,” he tweeted.
