Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has donated N100 million to the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Legion ahead of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The governor also donated two utility vehicles and four housing units to support military veterans and their families.

Sanwo-Olu announced the donations on Monday via his official X handle after receiving members of the Nigerian Legion during the State Executive Council meeting.

He said the gesture was meant to show the state government’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by ex-service men and women.

“Today at the State Executive Council meeting, we received the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Legion to kick off the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities,” he said.

“I want our veterans to know that Lagos State truly values their service. To show our appreciation, I have committed N100 million and two utility vehicles to help the Legion with its operations.”

The governor added that the state would also provide four two-bedroom apartments, food items and other supplies for members of the Legion.

“We are also providing four two-bedroom apartments, along with food and other supplies to support their members,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria’s continued existence as a sovereign nation was made possible by the courage and sacrifices of members of the armed forces.

According to him, the annual Emblem Appeal is a duty Nigerians owe to fallen heroes and those who returned from service with permanent injuries.

“We must remember them in real and tangible ways,” he said.

“This is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that allow all of us to live in a free and united country.”
