Sancho returns to Dortmund on loan

Published

Jadon Sancho has returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season, marking a reunion with the German club where he initially rose to prominence.

This move comes less than three years after Manchester United secured his services for a hefty £73 million.

Sancho’s tenure at Manchester United became strained, particularly during the current season, as he found himself sidelined after a public disagreement with manager Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old expressed his frustration on social media in September, referring to himself as a “scapegoat” for the team’s poor performances after being excluded from the matchday squad for a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal.

Consequently, Sancho was left out of the first-team training and had not played a single minute for the Red Devils since.

Despite his promising potential, Sancho struggled to live up to the high expectations associated with his hefty price tag at Manchester United.

In 82 appearances, he managed to score only 12 times and faced challenges in securing a regular spot in the starting lineup under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag.

The English winger now seeks a fresh start and career rejuvenation back at Borussia Dortmund.

The sporting director of Dortmund, Sebastian Kehl, expressed confidence in Sancho’s impact, saying, “Jadon is an absolute difference maker, and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon.” Kehl highlighted Sancho’s familiarity with the city, stadium, fans, and the club itself.

Reports from German media suggest that the loan deal will cost Dortmund approximately four million euros.

Moreover, it is indicated that Sancho has agreed to a substantial reduction in his reported £300,000-a-week wages, demonstrating his eagerness to contribute to Dortmund’s objectives for the season.
