Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has died at the age of 63 from cardiac arrest, the company confirmed on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the South Korean tech company said no announcement has been made about his replacement.

In an internal message, Samsung described Han as a dedicated leader who spent 37 years helping the company’s TV and electronics business become a global success.

“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the message read.

Han was appointed co-CEO and vice chairman in 2022, overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices business. His co-CEO, Jun Young-Hyun, leads the semiconductor division.

Just last week, Han chaired an annual meeting with investors, where he apologized for Samsung’s stock performance and warned that 2025 would be a tough year due to economic challenges.

“There are some difficulties in doing semiconductor mergers and acquisitions due to regulatory issues and various national interests, but we’re determined to produce some tangible results this year,” he said.

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before becoming co-CEO, he was in charge of Samsung’s display operation.

He played a key role in Samsung’s growth and helped the company navigate a challenging business environment.
