Salah Trabzonspor talks have officially begun. The Turkish club hopes to complete a high-profile move for former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
According to AFP, Trabzonspor announced on Tuesday that the Egyptian international would arrive at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on Wednesday. After that, he will travel to Trabzon later that evening.
The club said negotiations were underway but stopped short of confirming that a final agreement had been reached. Salah is currently available as a free agent after ending his nine-year stay with Liverpool.
Trabzonspor chairman Ertugrul Dogan also said the 34-year-old was expected to undergo medical examinations in Istanbul. Then, he will continue discussions over the proposed transfer.
A successful deal would represent one of the biggest signings in Trabzonspor’s history. It would also bring one of Africa’s most decorated footballers to the Turkish Super Lig.
Salah Trabzonspor talks gather momentum
Trabzonspor are preparing for the Europa League play-off round after finishing third in the Turkish top flight last season.
The Black Sea club finished nine points ahead of Beşiktaş. Beşiktaş had also been linked with a move for Salah following his departure from England.
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and became one of the most influential players in the club’s modern history. He helped the Reds win two Premier League titles, the Champions League and several other trophies.
The forward scored 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list.
He also registered 191 of his 193 Premier League goals for the club. This achievement leaves him fourth on the competition’s all-time chart behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.
Salah seeks new chapter after difficult season
Salah endured a difficult final campaign at Liverpool, scoring seven league goals. The team struggled to maintain its previous standards.
Despite the decline, his goalscoring record and global reputation make him an attractive option. This is especially true for clubs seeking experience and commercial appeal.
The Egyptian last featured at the 2026 World Cup. At the tournament, he helped his country reach the round of 16 for the first time since 1934.
Egypt eventually suffered a painful defeat to Argentina after surrendering a two-goal advantage against the eventual runners-up.
Salah has scored 66 goals in 119 international appearances. He remains one of the most successful African footballers of his generation.
Trabzonspor will now attempt to finalise personal terms and complete the required medical checks. When this is done, they will announce whether Salah has accepted the move.
