Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has criticised UEFA for leaving out key details in its tribute to late Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid.

Obeid, known as the “Palestinian Pele,” died on Wednesday in the southern Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Football Association said he was killed when Israeli forces targeted people waiting for humanitarian aid.

UEFA posted on X: “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pele’. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”

Salah replied to the post asking, “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”

Born in Gaza City, Obeid was 41, married, and a father of five. He played 24 international matches for Palestine.

The PFA said since the Gaza war began in October 2023, 662 people from sports and scouting have been killed, including 321 in football. The conflict started after an attack on Israel by Hamas.

In October 2023, Salah had called on “world leaders to come together” to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza to “prevent further slaughter of innocent souls.”

Salah, last season’s Premier League top scorer, is expected to play for Liverpool against Crystal Palace on Sunday in the Community Shield at Wembley.
