The most tangible of all visible mysteries has occurred in Benin City, Edo State capital as strange fire gutted Hallmark Shopping Mall.
The cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained but the state’s government has ordered full investigation to establish what led to the fire incident that gutted the only ultra modern shopping mall in the metropolis.
The state’s Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday paid a visit to the scene of the sad incident.
Speaking to the Governor, the Managing Director of the Super Mart, Mr Philip Edigin said that the fire started at about 12 mid night.
He revealed that all effort to get the State fire service to come to their rescue proved abortive as the fire service told him they have no diesel to work. He said he later got help from the Nigeria Air force fire service, IDSL NPDC and UNIBEN, before the State fire service arrived at about 6.am.
Governor Obaseki who described the damage done as a catastrophe and a major disaster to the state, assured that investigation would be conducted into the activities of the state fire service.
