Popular Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Emmanuel Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, has voiced concern over the activities of area boys, popularly referred to as agberos, in parts of Lagos.
The comedian spoke out after sharing a viral video that showed a group of agberos reportedly creating a disturbance at Onikan Stadium.
Reacting to the footage, Sabinus described the situation as an “agbero pandemic” and said he had previously avoided commenting on the issue because of the backlash such remarks could attract online.
He wrote on social media: “If I dey talk about this agbero pandemic for Lagos, una go begin attack person. Just look at grown men and people’s breadwinners making a mess of themselves. I don wash my hands for this matter.”
His comment quickly generated reactions online, with several social media users expressing similar concerns about alleged harassment, touting and disorder associated with agbero activities in some parts of Lagos.
Sabinus’ remarks have consequently renewed discussion on the activities of area boys and the challenges they pose to residents and visitors in affected areas.
