Ruth Otabor: Phyna never needed VDM’s help for justice, says Bobrisky

Following the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, sister of reality TV star Phyna, Nigerian social media users have continued to weigh in on the unfolding controversy involving activist Verydarkman.

Among those who shared their opinions is popular internet personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

It was publicly confirmed that Ruth Otabor passed away on Sunday, August 31, after spending 19 days in the hospital.

She had been receiving treatment after being hit by a Dangote truck, an incident that sparked public outcry and calls for justice.

Shortly before Ruth’s death, VDM—who had initially shown support for Phyna—accused her of betrayal, claiming she used him.

The situation escalated online, drawing criticism and mixed reactions.

Bobrisky reacted to the controversy by faulting Phyna for seeking help from VDM in the first place. “Phyna’s mistake was going to him for help,” he said, adding that her social media platform was enough to demand justice for her sister without involving VDM.

“She did not at any point need VeryDarkMan,” he emphasized.

Bobrisky further drew parallels with the late singer Mohbad’s case, alleging that VDM similarly took center stage in that situation.

“This was the exact way VDM hijacked Mohbad’s case and turned the spotlight on himself,” he claimed.

Bobrisky’s remarks sparked a flurry of online reactions. While some supported his stance, others defended VDM. User @gracey_madeit posted, “Anyone that says VDM caused Ruth’s death or he used it for clout or content. May God punish you and Nigeria will happen to you next.”

Another user, @heisdon_p, listed VDM’s contributions: “Did VDM arrange for a lawyer and book a flight for them to assist Phyna? The answer is YES… Did VDM speak up and boldly support Phyna when many celebrities kept quiet due to Dangote’s influence? THE ANSWER IS YES.”

However, not all responses were in VDM’s favour. @belie_veosas wrote, “VDM is a good man but he messed up in this case. He was not supposed to drag Phyna while her sister was still fighting for her life.”

Additional users echoed mixed sentiments. While some questioned why VDM’s involvement became controversial only after Ruth’s passing, others expressed frustration over the way the issue shifted focus from justice to social media drama.

The situation remains a trending topic across platforms, as Nigerians continue to debate who was right or wrong in the handling of the sensitive case.
