Russian officials have confirmed the death of Lieutenant General Aleksandr Otroshchenko following a military aircraft crash in Crimea, according to reports from APA’s Moscow bureau.
Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis stated that Lieutenant General Aleksandr Otroshchenko, who commanded the Air Force and Air Defense of the 45th Army under Russia’s Northern Fleet, was among those who died when an An-26 military transport aircraft went down in Crimea.
Prior to the official confirmation, reports from opposition media outlets in Russia had indicated that the senior military officer was among the fatalities in the incident.
The crash occurred on March 31, when an An-26 aircraft operated by the Russian Ministry of Defense lost control while flying over Crimean airspace and subsequently struck rocks. A total of 30 people were killed in the incident, including seven crew members.
