Two people have died and nine others were injured in a road accident involving a truck, a bus, and a tricycle on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on Monday near Tipper Garage in Ogun State. It involved a DAF truck with registration number JJJ 144 XD, a Mazda bus marked EPE 394 XP, and a tricycle with plate number DGB 599 VC.

South-West Area Commander of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

Ajibade explained that the truck had been left on a slope near a warehouse with the engine running and the handbrake applied. The driver reportedly stepped out to deliver a waybill to security personnel.

However, the handbrake later failed, causing the truck to roll backwards onto the expressway, where it hit the two other vehicles.

According to TRACE, 14 people were involved in the accident. Two died, nine were injured, and three escaped unhurt.

Ajibade said the bodies of the victims have been taken to the Ifo General Hospital, where the injured are also receiving treatment.

He noted that the accident scene was cleared by TRACE officials and the Federal Road Safety Corps to restore traffic flow.

Ajibade warned drivers to be careful and follow road safety rules to avoid similar accidents.
