Rotimi Amaechi mourns as mother dies at 89

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his mother, Mary Amaechi, at the age of 89.

According to The Punch, the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office announced her death in a statement on Thursday. It said she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

The family described Mary Amaechi as a devoted Christian, cherished matriarch and respected community leader. Throughout her life, she promoted peace, unity and service.

“Late Mrs Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader, whose beliefs and faith in God were firm and resolute,” the statement read.

The family added that members of her community loved and respected her because of her warmth, kindness and commitment to supporting those around her.

Amaechi and other members of the family also thanked friends, supporters and well-wishers for their condolence messages following the death.

“Rt Hon. Amaechi and the entire family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love already being shown to them during this difficult time,” the statement said.

The family said it would announce details of the funeral arrangements later. It appealed for continued prayers during the mourning period.
