Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has reportedly passed away at the age of 67 in Lagos, according to reliable sources.
According to Vanguard, it is disclosed that Akeredolu, who had been receiving medical care from State House doctors, couldn’t be flown abroad, leading to his demise.
“Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos,” a reliable source told Vanguard.
“They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week,” the source said.
The Governor’s health had been a concern, as efforts were made to provide dialysis machines to his undisclosed location in Lagos last week.
Akeredolu had previously returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany.
He later took another medical leave following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has been serving as the acting governor in Akeredolu’s absence. The Governor’s attempt to govern remotely from Ibadan during his stay in Nigeria had sparked public outrage.
In light of the Governor’s health condition, his wife, Betty Akeredolu, announced the suspension of activities planned to celebrate her 70th birthday, acknowledging unforeseen circumstances. Betty expressed gratitude for understanding and assured that celebrations would occur upon her return.
