English football icon and broadcaster, Gary Lineker, has opined that Mohammed Salah deserved the Premier League Player of the Month award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
WuzupNigeria reported that the Manchester United forward claimed the monthly award for September after bagging three goals in as many games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after re-joining from Juventus.
The POTM award is his fifth, adding to the ones he won in ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ and ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐๐๐ during his first Old Trafford stint.
He beat the likes of Liverpool’s Salah, Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr to the award.
Reacting on his Twitter handle, Linekar admitted that Ronaldo’s instantaneous impact in United is terrific but Salah deserved the award.
โHe [Ronaldo] โs been terrific, but @MoSalah shouldโve won thisโฆ.comfortably,โ he tweeted.
However, Ronaldo has since thanked his teammates after receiving the award.
“Proud to be elected Player Of The Month among so many great players in the Premier League.
“Thanks to all my teammates at Man. United, couldnโt have done it without them. Letโs keep working hard and the results will come!” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.
