Romanian President, Nicusor Dan, said Thursday that Romania is prepared to evacuate 1,000 children from Gaza to receive medical treatment in Romanian hospitals and to assist in rebuilding essential civilian institutions in the territory.
He made the remarks in Washington, DC, during the inaugural meeting of US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.
Dan began his address by expressing appreciation to Trump for organizing the gathering and for his leadership.
He described the initiative as “a peace plan that has been comprehensive and stable,” and praised the president’s “efforts and results in other parts of the world.”
“I think everyone desires peace, stability and prosperity in Gaza,” he added, saying “the question is how to act.”
Addressing humanitarian measures, Dan stated that Romania is ready to expand evacuation flights for ill children from Gaza, noting that similar missions have already been carried out.
He said the country could also provide support to up to 4,000 accompanying family members.
Dan pointed to Romania’s experience in emergency response, including ambulance and fire services, saying the country could contribute expertise, infrastructure and equipment to help restore such systems in Gaza.
He also said Romania is “already offering some scholarships for Palestinian students” and indicated that the program could be expanded alongside efforts “to rebuild and refurbish the schools in Gaza.”
Emphasizing institutional development as a central pillar of Romania’s potential contribution, Dan said the country has prior experience supporting the reconstruction of core state institutions such as police forces, justice systems and public administration bodies in other regions.
He said Romania is prepared to send experts and trainers to assist similar initiatives in Gaza.
Dan further noted that Romania maintains “traditionally good relations with the Jewish people and with the Palestinian people,” which he said could facilitate progress toward peace.
He concluded by affirming that Romania stands ready to contribute to the effort.
