Rohr: Eagles coach to walk away with N600m if NFF revokes contract
Emerging reports have suggested that the Nigeria Football Federation will have to cough up N600 million in compensation if Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, is dismissed.
The report followed moves by the football body to redeem its image after Nigeria’s last World Cup qualifier ended in 1-1 draw with Cape Verde on Tuesday.
When contacted, NFF’s Assistant Director, Media, Ademola Olajire, denied knowledge of Rohr’s dismissal.
According to him, Rohr’s sack can only be authenticated after a board meeting of the NFF and a signed statement is released.
The German tactician, who led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup, has been in the saddle of the Super Eagles job since 2016.
He also repeated the same feat at 2019 AFCON, finishing in third place after Nigeria defeated Tunisia 1-0, thanks to Odion Ighalo’s early goal.
Rohr gets $45,000 per month as salary and has one and half years still to go.
Although Rohr’s new deal with the Eagles is expected to expire after Qatar 2022, the financial implication of sacking him now is that he gets to smile home with a payoff of over N600 million as he pays his coaching staff from his salary.
