Spain international Rodri is set to wear the number 16 shirt when he completes his move to Barcelona.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the development in a post on X, stating that the Manchester City midfielder had requested the iconic number during discussions with Fermín López.
“Rodri has asked to wear number 16 at Barcelona during his conversations with Fermín López over recent days,” Romano wrote.
“Fermín, set to switch to number 7 so Rodri will maintain his iconic 16.”
Rodri is expected to join Barcelona from Manchester City, with the midfielder poised to put pen to paper on a four-year contract this week.
The agreement will keep the Ballon d’Or winner at Camp Nou until June 2030 as he prepares to begin a new chapter of his career in Spain.
Rodri was absent from the Manchester City squad that suffered a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.
