Real Madrid legend and former Brazil international, Roberto Carlos, has been hospitalised in Brazil after doctors detected a heart-related problem during routine medical checks.
The 52-year-old, who is also a club ambassador for Real Madrid, was on holiday in his home country when he visited a hospital over an unrelated leg issue. Medical sources said tests carried out on the leg revealed a small blood clot, which led doctors to conduct further examinations.
During a full-body MRI scan, doctors reportedly discovered that his heart was not functioning properly, prompting his immediate admission for urgent treatment.
Following the discovery, Roberto Carlos underwent a catheter insertion procedure. The surgery, which was initially expected to last about 40 minutes, reportedly stretched to nearly three hours due to complications. Despite the extended operation, the procedure was said to be successful.
Reports indicate that the former left-back is now in stable condition and out of danger. He is expected to remain under close medical observation for at least 48 hours to monitor his recovery.
Confirming his condition, Roberto Carlos reassured fans and supporters, saying, “I’m fine now and being closely monitored.”
The football icon, who enjoyed a glittering career with Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team, is widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in football history.
