A cattle ranch owned by former Ogun State House of Representatives member, Adesegun Adekoya, in Ako village, Ago-Iwoye, was attacked on Thursday by suspected armed robbers.
The attackers injured at least two farmers, including a 75-year-old man, during the incident.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the robbers broke into the ranch through a window at around 1:35 p.m. They attacked the ranch’s security guard, Friday Ogan, causing a deep cut on his leg. A second victim, Adamu Idi, a 75-year-old farmer, also suffered a serious machete wound to his head.
“A call was made to inform the police command about an attack that occurred at the victim’s cow ranch. Suspected thieves broke through the windows to gain access and attacked the security guard and another farmer,” said Odutola.
Police officers quickly responded, and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital, Love and Care Hospital, for treatment. Despite the violent attack, none of the cattle were stolen.
Odutola confirmed that the police had launched a manhunt to find the attackers. “Investigations are ongoing, and any further developments will be communicated,” she added.
This incident follows a similar attack reported in July 2024, when unidentified assailants killed a maize farmer, Ogar Fidelis, in Ijebu-Igbo, highlighting ongoing security concerns for farmers in the region.
