Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, is set to make a highly anticipated return to live theatre this June, marking his first stage performance since 1987.

The play will debut at the Woolwich Fireworks Factory in London, United Kingdom.

In a statement sent to Sunday Scoop, producers SUMI Group highlighted the production as a significant cultural moment, both for African storytelling and RMD’s illustrious career.

“It elevates our mission to bridge African storytelling with universal human truths,” the statement read, emphasizing the company’s commitment to amplifying African narratives on global stages.

The story follows the character Adenike, portrayed by Idia Aisien, as she navigates the emotional complexities of love, ambition, and strained familial ties.

Her relationship with her father, Adebayo, played by RMD, is at the heart of the plot. The trailer features striking contrasts—passionate late-night moments with her husband Kunle (played by Kunle Remi) interspersed with scenes of quiet domestic intimacy.

The cast also includes prominent actors such as Tobi Bakre, Otunba Akin Lewis, Tomi Ojo, and Ronke Ojo. The production is said to combine minimalist staging with the dynamic energy of Lagos, offering a unique theatrical experience.

RMD’s return to the stage comes shortly after the Lagos premiere of his Glo-sponsored film Radio Voice.

During the event, he praised telecommunications giant Globacom for its unwavering support of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

He noted that the company has continually invested in the creative sector. “Globacom has carved a niche as the biggest corporate supporter of Nigeria’s entertainment industry,” he said. The brand has engaged numerous musicians, actors, and comedians as ambassadors and has sponsored several entertainment projects, including X Factor, Glo Naija Sings, Battle of the Year, and Dance with Peter, while hosting music and comedy shows across the country to nurture local talent.
