Rivers State: Ignore Gov Wike’s ban, Sowore tells #EndSARS protesters
Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore has advised EndSARS protesters to ignore a ban by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
WuzupNigeria reported that the Rivers State Commissioner of Information, Paulinus Nsirim, announced a ban on all forms of protests in the state.
The ban also affects the EndSARS protest which is spreading across the country.
Nsirim said:
“The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State. Therefore, all proposed protests under #EndSars Campaign are hereby prohibited.
“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.
“Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order. Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.”
Reacting to the ban, Sowore slammed Governor Wike and urged protesters to ignore it.
He tweeted:
“@GovWike is power drink, these are the mini-Buhari’s scattered all over the political terrain in Nigeria. I urge protesters in Rivers state to ignore Wike’s protest ban and embark massively on #SARSMUSTEND action! #Revolutionnow.”
