Rivers State police command have arrested a security guard for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl in the Mothercat area of Trans-Amadi in Port Harcourt.

The suspect, identified simply as Godday, was arrested last Tuesday by officers from the Trans-Amadi Police Division working with security personnel from a nearby bank.

The mother of the teenage victim, who asked not to be named to avoid stigma, explained what happened to her daughter on Saturday, September 20.

The woman said she became ill and sent her daughter to withdraw money using her ATM card. She also gave the girl transport money for the trip.

“On Saturday, September 20, 2025, after 1 pm, I was not feeling fine so I sent my daughter to Mothercart to withdraw money with my ATM. I gave her transport to and fro too. So, she will not have to waste time,” the mother said.

The girl first withdrew money at one commercial bank in Mothercat, then took a tricycle to Ordinance Junction to withdraw more money from another bank.

“When I called her, she told me she was done. I waited for some time, but I didn’t see her, and it was past the time she was supposed to return. So, I became worried. I then called her phone, but she was not picking up. While we were on her search, I called again and she said with a low voice that she was on her way home,” the mother explained.

When the girl finally returned home, her mother noticed something was seriously wrong.

“When she came back, her clothes were soaked with water and blood, and there were bruises on her face, neck, and leg. Her left jaw was swollen, and her left eye. She was so weak,” the distressed mother said.

The family immediately reported the case to Trans-Amadi Police Station and took the girl to hospital for treatment.

When the victim was strong enough to speak, she told her family what had happened to her.

The girl explained that when she was withdrawing money at the bank in Ordinance, a man was standing behind her. She thought he was also there to withdraw money, but after she finished, she noticed the man did not use the ATM.

“She now entered another Keke and went back to another bank at Mothercat. When she came down in front of the bank at Mothercat, she saw the man who was standing behind her at the bank in Ordinance. The man started dragging her in front of the bank at Mothercat. She was shouting that no one came to her rescue,” the mother recounted.

According to the victim’s account, the man dragged her to a bank where he worked as a security guard in the same Mothercat area.

“The man dragged her to a bank where he is a security guard at the same Mothercat, dragged her inside, locked the gate, and raped her,” the mother said.

During the assault, the man held the girl’s mouth and beat her until she lost consciousness. Hours later, he woke her up and ordered her to leave.

The family reported the case to the bank where their daughter had gone to withdraw money at Mothercat. People there searched for the suspect and arrested him.

The mother also discovered that N340,000 was missing from the money she had asked her daughter to withdraw.

Fighting back tears, the woman said she was devastated that her daughter had to lose her virginity in such a violent manner. She demanded a thorough investigation and justice for her child.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest.

“Yes, I can confirm. The man has been arrested and the matter transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt, for further investigation,” she stated.

The police have also secured the building formerly used by a bank where the assault took place.

Iringe-Koko, who is a Superintendent of Police, said the girl is receiving treatment at a hospital.

Dennis Otobo, a member of the Association Against Child Sexual Abuse and Gender Based Violence in Rivers State, has been following the case. He called for a thorough investigation and for the suspect to be taken to court without delay.
