The Rivers State Police Command said it would launch a manhunt for a notorious criminal known as Bobrisky who is said to have been terrorising the state.

The police’s statement is coming after the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, declared him (Bobrisky) wanted.

Wike had on Thursday placed a bounty of N30 million on Bobrisky and the killers of a Director with the state government during the Choba community crisis.

It was gathered that Bobrisky was a feared cultist involved in oil bunkering and other crimes in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said that though the Command had not been officially informed about the decision by the state government on Bobrisky, the police would enforce the governor’s directive.

“Bobrisky was declared wanted by the Rivers State Government. But we are yet to get that communication.  If any criminal is declared wanted, that means that it must have been a decision taken by the Security Committee, which is headed by the state government.

“So, we have to queue behind the state governor to enforce his directive,” the state police spokesman stressed.

Earlier, Wike had announced the proscription of community-based youth bodies across the state, following the increase in crimes involving cult groups.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, warned those operating youth bodies in the state to stop the operation of such bodies.

“Following the spate of lawlessness, rascality, criminality, and involvement of cult groups in Youth activities, the Rivers State Government has proscribed all community-based youth bodies with immediate effect.

“All those currently operating as youth bodies in the state and in whatever form, are hereby warned to cease all operations immediately or face arrest by law enforcement officers.

“Henceforth, all those who want to conduct youth elections or contest youth elections in the state must first obtain clearance from the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police before the government will approve their conduct and participation in youth activities,” the statement read.

In a related development, the state governor expressed regret that cultists were taking over youth groups in the communities.

He spoke on Thursday when he handed over 40 patrol vans fitted with communication gadgets to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, See 4 Eye, Police Anti-Kidnapping, Police Anti-Cultism, Federal Road Safety Corps and Eagle Crime at the Government House Port Harcourt.
