The newly appointed 23 Local Government administrators in Rivers State have been sternly cautioned against reckless conduct and the misappropriation of public funds.

The warning was issued on Friday, by the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired), during a high-level meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Addressing the appointees, Ibas made it clear that his administration would not condone any form of misconduct or financial irresponsibility.

“I will not tolerate any form of recklessness, abuse of office, or misuse of public funds.
You are here to serve the people, not yourselves. Every kobo spent must be accounted for, and the people must see value for their money,” Ibas warned.

He charged the local government leaders with delivering on critical areas such as sanitation, civil service discipline, environmental management, primary education, youth engagement, and healthcare delivery—stating these would be the benchmarks for evaluating their performance.

“This is not the time for excuses. It is the time for results,” he said.

Underscoring the importance of public trust and transparency, Ibas added,
“The people deserve to know how their money is being used. You owe them not only accountability but also dedication to their well-being.”
