The Rivers State government has confirmed five cases of cholera and nine deaths linked to an outbreak in Akuku-Toru and Andoni Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, revealed that the confirmed cases were recorded in Akuku-Toru, while the nine deaths occurred across both LGAs.
“The ministry has activated emergency response teams in the affected areas to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread,” Dr. Oreh stated.
Efforts are also underway to educate residents on preventing the disease. The commissioner urged people to maintain proper hygiene, drink safe water, and report any suspected cases to health authorities.
She added, “Parents should cooperate with health teams as they work to mitigate the impact of the outbreak.”
Residents have been advised to be vigilant for symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration and to seek medical attention immediately if they notice any of these signs.
