26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have decided to withdraw the impeachment notice previously issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The announcement was made during the official session held in the state capital of Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The decision to withdraw the impeachment notice was a central focus of the assembly’s deliberations during the session.

The lawmakers pointed to a recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the conflicting parties, which took place at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Monday, as the catalyst for their change of course.

During the session, a notice of withdrawal was read on the house floor, with the lawmakers emphasizing their respect for Tinubu as the driving force behind their decision.

The conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had caused a rift among lawmakers.

Twenty-seven of them had previously defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The feud had triggered a series of events, including parallel sittings, the discovery of an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a wave of resignations from pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
