Rivers State Government has approved N18bn for construction of the fourth flyover at the GRA Junction along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, said the approval was given during the State Executive Council meeting, preceded over by Governor Nyesom Wike at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Nsirim, who spoke on Wednesday, said the amount also covered the dualisation of Tombia Extension Road to Ikwerre Road and Ezimgbu Link Road to Stadium Road.

Nsirim said the projects would be executed by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, explaining the length of the roads for expansion was 680 meters while that of the Flyover was 502 meters.

He said government took the decision to further strengthen its infrastructural development drive.

Nsirim said that 20 indigenous engineers would be trained by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC during the contract as part of government’s policy on youth empowerment and skill acquisition.

He also said that the council approved the building of new legislative quarters for members of the House of Assembly following dilapidation of the former quarters.

He said the move was in line with Wike’s commitment to ensure that the three arms of government worked in synergy for the overall development of the state.

Commissioner for Works, Austin Ben-Chioma said when upon completion, traffic difficulties experienced at the Ezimgbu Link road would be a thing of the past.
