RIP DMX: Stop the rumours, he’s still alive, manager says
Steve Rifkind, the manager of US rap icon, DMX, has debunked rumours that the ‘Grand Champ’ rapper is dead.
Reacting to rumours of DMX’s death, which trended on social media on Thursday night (April 8), Rifkind says that his client is still alive but on life support.
The death rumour started after comedian Luenell posted a “RIP” message about the 50-year-old rapper on Instagram.
Rifkind, in a video uploaded on his verified Instagram page in the early hours of Friday, noted that the false death reports are not helping DMX’S family.
“Everybody, please stop with posting these rumours,” he said.
“DMX is still alive. Yes, he is on life support, but please, it’s not helping anybody by having them see these false rumours. Let the family relax for a night.
“You’ll be hearing a statement from the family some time tomorrow.”
Rifkind who had been working with DMX for the past three years, added that “the only thing I ask is just stop with the rumours”.
WuzupNigeria reported that DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was hospitalised on April 2nd and is in critical condition.
According to TMZ, the 50-year-old rapper reportedly overdosed on cocaine though the family or Rifkind are yet to confirm or debunk the report.
However, a latest report from TMZ revealed that a new round of neurological testing had not indicated any improvement in DMX’s condition.
Despite the disclaimer put out by Rifkind, social media users have continued to post RIP DMX messages on Twitter.
Luenell, who began the trend, later deleted the post, apologised and explained that she considered someone to be “gone” when “your spirit leaves and your organs fail you”.
At the time of this report, there are 53.6 thousand tweets in relation to the topic ‘RIP DMX’.
