A nationwide manhunt is underway after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a college event in Utah on Wednesday, with authorities confirming they have recovered the rifle used in the attack.

The firearm, believed to have been used in the deadly shooting, was discovered near the scene, along with a screwdriver thought to have been used to assemble or modify the weapon.

Investigators say the rifle and its ammunition were marked with phrases linked to political and cultural issues, though a clear motive has yet to be determined.

The suspect, described as a man of college age, remains at large. Federal authorities released photos of the alleged shooter on Thursday and announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

The FBI is urging the public to come forward with any credible tips.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump mourned the loss of Kirk, calling him “a giant of his generation” and announced plans to posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Charlie was a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions,” Trump said during a September 11 remembrance ceremony. “We miss him deeply, but his courage and voice will live on.”

He added that the upcoming award ceremony will draw “a very big crowd” to honor Kirk’s life and legacy.

Vice President Kamala Harris also condemned the attack, calling it “deeply disturbing,” and emphasized that “political violence has no place in America.” Senator Bernie Sanders echoed the sentiment, describing the shooting as “horrifying” and urging Americans to “stand united against extremism.”

In the aftermath of the killing, lawmakers are considering enhanced security protocols for campus events and town halls. Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau issued a warning to foreign nationals, stating that those who glorify or minimize the assassination on social media may face visa consequences.

“Violence and hatred have no place in this country,” Landau said. He also instructed consular officials to monitor social media activity related to the case closely.

Charlie Kirk’s Life and Influence

Charlie Kirk, 31, was best known as the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a prominent conservative youth organization he launched in 2012. A vocal advocate for limited government, gun rights, and immigration controls, Kirk was also the host of The Charlie Kirk Show and had long been active in Republican politics.

He served as chair of Students for Trump in 2019 and was considered a key figure in Republican outreach to younger voters. Supporters remember him as a dynamic strategist who inspired a generation of young conservatives.

The ongoing investigation has intensified political and public scrutiny, with authorities working to piece together the motive behind the shooting and track down the gunman. As the manhunt continues, officials are calling for calm and cooperation.
