A retired United States Navy officer, Abayomi Fagbenro, popularly known as Bibire, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Fagbenro made the declaration in a statement issued in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, noting that his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, political stakeholders and residents across the 23 wards that make up the federal constituency.

According to him, the move to seek the mandate of the electorate was driven by persistent appeals from residents of Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency who urged him to present himself for public service in order to contribute to the growth and development of the area.

He added: “I have listened carefully to the yearnings and expectations of the people, and I have decided to answer a call to serve, in order to complement ongoing efforts and contribute meaningfully to the development of our communities spread across the federal constituency.”

The retired naval officer emphasised that representation at the National Assembly remains a vital platform for advancing the interests of constituents through legislation, advocacy and oversight that ensure government programmes effectively benefit citizens.

He added that the House of Representatives would offer him a broader platform to deepen his humanitarian efforts, building on years of community support initiatives he has undertaken across Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency aimed at improving residents’ living conditions.
