The Delta State Police have confirmed the brutal killing of retired Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, who was discovered dead in her Asaba residence, the state capital.

Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that on November 24, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, received a report from Justice Okogwu’s brother, who had visited her home and found her lifeless in the sitting room with her hands, legs, and mouth tied.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the DPO swiftly led men to her residence, where the corpse was evacuated and taken to the mortuary for autopsy. One suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been arrested, while the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, is presently at large,” Edafe explained.

He added that, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case had been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation.

Preliminary investigations reportedly indicate that Godwin Vanem is suspected of committing the crime and fleeing the scene. “The command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect,” Edafe said.

Meanwhile, CP Abaniwonda expressed condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the command. He assured that justice would be served for the late justice and urged anyone with useful information to contact the police through the provided emergency numbers.
