Residents of Danhono II, located in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Monday staged a protest over the abduction of six persons by suspected bandits.

The abductions reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 12am, when armed men invaded the community and whisked away six residents from their homes.

The development triggered anger among residents, leading youths, women and other members of the community to march to the divisional police office to lodge complaints over what they described as a deteriorating security situation.

A video circulating on social media captured youths expressing frustration over what they said was a resurgence of kidnapping activities in the area.

About four weeks ago, a retired photojournalist, Malam Umar, was abducted from his home in the same community and has remained in captivity despite the payment of ransom.
Speaking to Daily Trust, a youth leader in the community, who asked not to be named, said residents were awakened by gunshots at about midnight before it was later confirmed that six people had been taken from their residences.

“The protest was due to the rising kidnappings in the community and the abduction of the six people . It’s also unfortunate that residents are afraid to sleep in their houses,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said security personnel had been deployed to the affected area.

“We have received the protesters and a deployment have been made to the community. Effort is also in place to ensure the victims are rescued,” he said.
