Residents in border communities neglected, says minister
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed concern over the neglect suffered by Nigerians living in border communities.
He has vowed to do everything within his power to ensure that they are provided with the basic amenities they need.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry’s Director of Press, Afonja Ajibola, said that Tunji-Ojo made the pledge when he received the Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Abimbola Yusuf.
The statement further stated that the minister said that Nigerians in border communities are often neglected and he wants to make sure they feel like they are part of Nigeria by providing them with the necessary infrastructure and other essential services to improve their well-being.
“He added that Nigerians in border communities are neglected. He said he wants to make sure they feel they are part of Nigeria by providing them with necessary Infrastructures and other essential services to improve their well-being,” the statement partly read.
Tunji-Ojo also said that he wants to be remembered as the Minister who helped President Bola Tinubu secure the nation’s borders.
“I don’t want to be remembered as the Minister that solved the passport problem, but as the Minister that helped the President to secure borders in Nigeria, that is legacy,” he said.
The Minister stated that he does not want to disappoint Nigerians and the President who appointed him as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Earlier, the Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Abimbola Yusuf, said that his visit was to seek collaboration with the Ministry to eliminate passport queues in Nigeria.
He said, “It is in this capacity that the Commission wishes to partner and collaborate with you in your efforts and commitment to steer the Ministry to greatness under your watch. It is hoped that the relationship between your organisation and the commission will be fruitful for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
