Enugu Assembly distributes food palliatives to physical challenged persons.

Mr Hillary Ugwu who is a member representing Enugu East Constituency in the  State House of Assembly has distributed food items to physically challenged and other indigent members of  Enugu East Local Government Area.

The food items donated were 300 bags of  rice and 300 cartons of noodles to help the people cushion the effects of COVID-19 lockdown.

Presenting the items at his residence in Enugu on Sunday, Ugwu, who is also a  first timer in the Assembly said the palliatives were part of his contributions to assist the entire council area to overcome the period of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Assemblyman noted that selected persons from the 12 political wards in Enugu East Local Government Area as well as physically challenged persons benefited from the palliatives distribution.

According to him, he has sensitised members of the council to what to do to avoid contracting the virus.

Ugwu also commended the Enugu state government and the Enugu East local government for their effective management of COVID-19 cases.

He urged the public to observe all the precautionary measures stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease and Control (NCDC), and Enugu state government to remain safe from the virus.

On the first year performance of the Seventh Assembly, Ugwu said the legislature had in the last one year contributed significantly to the development of the state through passage of many bills, motions and oversight functions.

In his remark, the Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government, Mr Alex Ugwu, commended the donor for remembering the people at this critical time, saying he was living up to his responsibility as a legislator.

The council Chairman encouraged other stakeholders in the Council to follow the footsteps of Mr Hillary Ugwu in palliatives distribution especially to indigent members of the council.

The Council boss denied the insinuation that most COVID-19 cases were residents of Enugu East.

He emphasised that those who tested positive to the virus were travelers who violated the inter-state travel ban.

Speaking on before of other beneficiaries, Mr Peter Igwurube thanked the legislator for remembering them at this period and prayed God to bless him abundantly.

Igwurube urged other stakeholders in the council to emulate Ugwu’s style of leadership especially in human relationship.

While blessing the palliatives, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary, Emene, Very Rev. Fr. Victor Eze, commended the Assemblyman for the gesture.

Fr. Eze said that this was the first of its kind for a legislator who was just one year in office to donate this kind of palliative to his people, praying God to shower him with more blessings.
