Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kayode Peters passes away in Canada

A prominent Nigerian filmmaker, actor, and producer, Kayode Peters, has died.

According to a statement released by his family, he passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada, after a prolonged illness.

In a heartfelt post shared on his official Instagram page, the family confirmed his passing and requested privacy as they begin making funeral arrangements.

They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025 in Toronto, Canada,” the post reads.

“KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning. “KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, a gifted film maker, actor and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. “He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed. “As we grieve this painful loss, we kindly ask for kindness and privacy while we take time to make arrangements for his funeral and to heal. Peters was widely recognized for his contributions to Nigeria’s contemporary theatre and television. He gained acclaim for his role in the popular series Extended Family and was also celebrated for creating Flatmates, a comedy series that gained widespread popularity in the early 2000s. Through his creative works, he left an enduring impact on audiences and the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
