A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, after the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced it would investigate the Lekki shootings.

Omokri’s statement came after the ICC announced on Wednesday that it’s conducting a preliminary investigation into the events surrounding the #EndSARS protests and shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos state.

Reacting to the development, Omokri took to his official Twitter account to spite his haters.

“Right now, can everyone who insulted, denigrated or berated me when I promised Generals @MBuhari and Buratai that they would answer to the International Criminal Court, @IntlCrimCourt, apologise to me, beginning from the @HQNigerianArmy that labelled it Fake News!”

In a statement, the ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda had earlier said it received information on alleged crimes to which it has now instituted a probe.

The ICC stated that the examination would “assess whether the legal criteria for opening an investigation under the Rome Statute… are met.”

The international court confirmed it is analysing the material sent and its findings would be made public when a final decision on the process is reached, according to BBC.
