Remi Tinubu advocates autism awareness, inclusion

The First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, has made a heartfelt plea for early intervention and increased societal inclusion for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

In a statement released to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the importance of early diagnosis and access to support services to enable those with autism to achieve their full potential.

She urged, “I urge parents and caregivers to be attentive to developmental milestones and seek professional help if any concerns arise.”

Mrs. Tinubu acknowledged the significant challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families while recognizing their unique strengths and creativity.

She expressed admiration for the unwavering love and dedication exhibited by families with autistic loved ones, stating, “I salute and celebrate the unwavering love and dedication of families with loved ones who are autistic.”

Highlighting the crucial role of community organizations, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized their contribution in providing essential resources, services, and opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum.

However, she emphasized that more efforts are needed to foster an accepting and inclusive environment for Nigerians with autism.

Mrs. Tinubu asserted, “Together we can create a world where individuals, irrespective of who they are, and whatever challenges they face, are empowered, included, and celebrated for their unique gifts.”
