Nigerian music star Rema has made history as his debut album Rave & Roses (Ultra) becomes the first African project to hit 3 billion streams on Spotify.

The streaming milestone, announced on Thursday, puts the 21-track album ahead of all other African albums on the platform. The success is largely driven by the global hit *Calm Down*, especially the remix featuring American pop star Selena Gomez, which alone contributed over 2 billion streams.

Calm Down had earlier become the first African song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, and its growing popularity continues to boost the album’s numbers.

The remaining tracks on Rave & Roses (Ultra) added just under 1 billion combined streams, cementing the album’s place as a global success.

Following closely behind Rema is South African singer Tyla, whose self-titled debut album has crossed 2 billion streams, placing her second on the list of the most-streamed African projects on Spotify.

Other African albums that have crossed the 1 billion mark include Burna Boy’s African Giant and Love, Damini, Wizkid’s Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition, and CKay’s CKay the First.
