Rema’s “Calm Down” makes history as most Shazammed song of 2023

Published

Nigerian singer Rema’s hit song “Calm Down” has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the most Shazammed song of 2023 globally.

This is a groundbreaking achievement for African music, as it marks the first time an African song has topped the Global Shazam Year-End list.

“Calm Down” surpassed other global hits such as Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” and Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” which placed second and third, respectively, on the Shazam Year-End list.

This impressive achievement further solidifies Rema’s position as one of the most prominent voices in the global music scene.

In addition to its Shazam success, “Calm Down” has also made significant strides on other music platforms.

The remix of the song featuring Selena Gomez has been ranked as the 12th most streamed song in the world on Apple Music in 2023, and it holds the 45th position on Apple Music’s list of most-streamed songs of 2023 in the United States.

Rema’s dominance continues to extend to the Billboard charts as well. With 34 appearances on the 2023 Billboard Year-End Charts, Rema holds the record for the most appearances by an African artist on the charts.

These appearances span across various categories, including artists’ year-end charts, airplay, albums, and song chart entries.
