Nigerian singer, Lil Kesh, says he has made his parents proud by making it out of the ghetto regardless of how difficult it was for him.

Looking back at some of the hurdles he had to overcome, Lil Kesh said his biggest achievements was standing the test of time in the music industry fraught with favouritism and politics.

“The fact that I made my parents proud, regardless of how difficult it was to make it out of the ghetto,” he said.

In an interview with Taylor Live Magazine, the singer whose real name is Keshinro Ololade opened up on his journey into the music industry.

The singer said being an artiste means being a servant to humanity because “we were created to serve one way or the other and I choose to serve through music.”

Speaking of what influences his style of music, Lil Kesh said: “My surrounding played a major role in my sense of creativity which is why I often talk about my everyday struggle and hardship I faced before my life turned around”.

Lil Kesh said growing up in a ghetto background, he didn’t know he’ll one day become a professional singer.

“Did I know I’ll become a professional singer? No,” he stated, “but I started music at a very young age as a chorister in church, playing drums and talking drums.”

The singer further advised upcoming acts not to be discouraged by adversities like politics in the music industry or even lack of inspiration.

He urged them to remain “creative, be hungry, be prayerful, believe and be sure to keep the dream alive.

Lil Kesh’s style of music which has created a niche for him has steadily evolved since he left the YBNL led record label owned by Olamide.
