Real Madrid lucky to lose just 3-0 to Arsenal – Bellingham

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has admitted that his team were “lucky” not to suffer a heavier defeat in their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

The Spanish giants were completely outclassed by Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Arsenal’s Declan Rice scored two brilliant free kicks in the second half, while Mikel Merino added a third goal, giving the Gunners a strong advantage before the second leg in Spain next week.

After the match, Bellingham told reporters:“We’re lucky to get away with only three. We were nowhere near it. That’s the fact and Arsenal were really good. I know two of their goals were free-kicks but they could have had way more.”

The England international admitted that Arsenal outplayed them in all areas and said the team must now focus on the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“There is a second leg and that’s what we’re holding on to,” he added.

The result puts pressure on Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who must now pull off a major comeback to stay in the tournament.
