Congratulatory messages have kept on pouring in for Nigerian juju legend Sunday Adeniyi, popularly known throughout the world as King Sunny Ade.

King Sunny Ade, classified as one of the most influential musicians of all time clocked 70 years of age on Thursday. The multi-talented guitarist, vocalist, singer, songwriter and dancer was born in Osogbo, Osun State on September 22, 1946.

The legendary  musician who has also had stints in the acting world has been nominated twice for the Grammy awards.

To show the position occupied by the musician in the country’s history, President Muhammadu Buhari found time out of his busy UNGA17 schedule to tweet  a birthday message for the music star who is also a visiting professor of music at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

“I wish King Sunny Ade a happy 70th birthday today. KSA has taken African music to the world, and brought great pride to Nigeria and Africa,” the president tweeted.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Senate President, Bukola Saraki also felicitated with veteran musician. According to Atiku, Sunny Ade’s music which has been on the Nigerian music scene since the 1960s will always be timeless.

“From the 1960’s to date, Sunny Ade’s music will always be timeless. I wish the King many happy returns as he turns 70 today.”

On his part, Saraki reaffirmed that Sunny Ade is the pioneer of modern world music and one of the most influential musicians of all times.

“Happy birthday to King Sunny Ade a pioneer of modern world music. Great Nigerian classed as 1 of the most influential musicians of all time,” he said.
