The true story behind the viral photo of breastfeeding schoolgirl from Zambia
Photos of a girl pictured in school uniform while breast feeding a child is going viral on the internet.
The photo is a testimony to the efforts of Zambia, to make education more inclusive, especially for teenage girls who have dropped out of school because they dropped out of school.
The story following the viral photo of the girl is simply that she was photographed breastfeeding her baby during school exams. True or not, it is impressive.
The caption that followed the original photo shared by Brian Hapunda indicated that the photos are of a girl Child in Pambashe Constituency of Luapula Province back at school after being salvaged from an early marriage through the works of the First Lady Esther Lungu, Pambashe law maker Ronald Chitotela & the local traditional leadership
The post read: “Zambian Ministry of Education introduced a “Re – entry Girl Child Policy” that now allows school girls that had left school after falling pregnant to return to school. In rural areas of Zambia, cases of the Girl Child dropping off from school due to early marriages & pregnancies are very high.
“Works of the First Lady Esther Lungu with many traditional leaders throughout the country has begun to yield positive fruits in stopping early marriages & have the Girl Child who has fallen off from school get back to class.
“In pictures is a Girl Child in Pambashe Constituency of Luapula Province back at school after being salvaged from an early marriage through the works of the First Lady Esther Lungu, Pambashe law maker Ronald Chitotela & the local traditional leadership.
