The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has appealed to Nigerians for their support, patience and orderliness over the rehabilitation and reconstruction work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The minister has come under heavy criticism lately over the slow pace of work on the expressway which links the south-west to other regions of the country.

Fashola’s appeal comes few days after the contracting firm handling the expressway, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, explained that the rehabilitation work on the long bridge section of the expressway would require complete scraping off and replacement of the asphalt surface.

The contracting firm added that the two main lanes currently under construction will be completed by the end of August while work on the various other narrow lanes would be spread over the next four months for final delivery by middle of December.

Speaking on the project over the weekend, Fashola appealed for patience, support and orderliness on the part of motorists, urging them to bear with the federal government and the contractors.

The former governor of Lagos State added that the current temporary discomfort will eventually lead to a safer and smoother motoring experience when the reconstruction work is completed.

WuzupNaija recalls that Julius Berger resumed work on the expressway after moving away from the site for over 12 months, due to non-payment for work done by the previous administration.
