A protest led by Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi, and others against the continued detention of Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, who was arrested on allegations of molesting a minor, has generated mixed reactions on social media.

WUZUPNIGERIA reports that Fabiyi and others, on Wednesday, had staged a march in protest from Casino Bus Stop to the Panti Police Station in Yaba, Lagos State, demanding that Baba Ijesha be released from detention till when his case will be heard in court.

The protesters could be seen with placards and banners that read, among other things, “denial of bail for a bailable offense is a human rights violation,” “Nigeria police, please allow the law to dictate to you, not Iyabo Ojo, Princess, and co,” “release Baba Ijesha,” and “Nigeria police must respect human rights and honor bail for a bailable offense.”

Fabiyi has been at loggerheads with other colleagues, including Iyabo Ojo and comedienne Princess whose 14-year-old foster daughter was allegedly raped by Baba Ijesha, over his support for the embattled actor.

Reacting to the protest, one ekunDAYO suggested Baba Ijesha is indebted to Yomi Fabiyi and the latter may not get to collect it unless he comes out of prison hence the protest. He wrote; “Be like say Ijesha dey owe this guy money and he can’t get it if he is in jail.”

One Adebayo Eniola wondered why Fabiyi would support a man accused of paedophilia, saying: “This Yomi Fabiyi is mad gan. How can you demand for the release of a confessed minor molester? You claim keeping him in custody is a violation of human right. It’s either you’re as foolish and ignorant as they say or you actually have an agenda against the victim’s guardian.”

OllyKween wrote: “So Yomi Fabiyi was able to pay 3 guys to join his protest for the detention of Baba Ijesha. I don’t support violation of human right nor paedophilia. But would he still lead this kind of protest if it was his daughter? Yes, law is law and same laws have exceptions. Be guided.”
