Nigerians on social media have frowned at Ahmed Indimi’s newly acquired pet – a white cub, WuzupNigeria reports.

Recall that Ahmed, son of Nigerian billionaire businessman and philanthropists, Mohammed Indimi, got married to the president’s daughter, Zahra Buhari in 2016.

The president’s son-in-law recently took to his verified Instagram page where he shared photos of a white lion cub with his 104 thousand followers and captioned, “my new pet” and “Love the new pet” in the separate posts.

White lions are a rare colour mutation of Southern African lions and thought to have been indigenous to the Timbavati region of South Africa for centuries.

According to statistics made available online by data Belarus Feed, the price of a white lion cub costs as much as $140,000, which is equivalent to N53,340,000.

Nevertheless, the director of ‎Oriental Energy Resources’ newly procured lion has expectedly generated heated debates among his followers on Instagram.

A follower raised concerns that the lion belongs to a rare breed of species that are opened to poaching.

“I really hope it’s a joke because these are endangered animals. Their population is diminishing dues to poaching and such acts of keeping as pets,” the user commented.

Another user stated that in a sane country, Animal Control Authority or Animal Rights Group would have evacuated the animal from his custody, with or without his consent.

“No one has the right to keep a wild and very dangerous animal like a lion as a pet. The animal belongs to the zoo or wild,” he said.

Yet another follower urged Ahmed to tread cautiously with the beast.
