A youth pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God is allegedly facing possible suspension after a heated online exchange in which he placed a death curse on a UK-based Nigerian woman who addressed him as “Mr” instead of “Dr.”
The controversy began when Pastor Bola Abiodun, who uses the handle @b_abiodun4 on X, objected to being addressed as “Mr” by Tomisin, a UK-based user. Abiodun, who describes himself in his profile as a husband, father of four, and a first-class honours graduate of “Lamba University” in Yola, insisted on being addressed by his preferred title.
Responding to Tomisin, he wrote: “I’m a ‘Dr’, not a ‘Mr’. Don’t refer to me as MR again. I’m not your mate.”
Rather than retract her comment, Tomisin responded with playful defiance, replying, “mr with the small m.” She continued repeating the salutation in subsequent posts, prompting increasingly stern reactions from the pastor.
Warning her of spiritual consequences, Abiodun wrote: “I’m anointed man of god. I can curse you now and it’ll take effect for the rest of your lives. Bible says touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm. Try me and see. I’m a messenger from god.”
As the exchange intensified, the cleric described himself as a “dangerous man” whose “tongue carries fire,” stating that he was sparing her from issuing a lifelong curse.
Unmoved, Tomisin replied: “I’m bored now, when are you going to show me how dangerous you are mr bola abiodun?”
The confrontation reached its peak when Abiodun publicly declared: “I, Pastor Dr Bola Abiodun, hereby pronounce a curse on u that if you don’t retract & apologize for not calling me by my appropriate titles, u shall pass on to glory in your sleep at 11pm on 23rd Feb, ’26. If you wake up tomorrow morning then I’m not a man of God& I’m a bastard.”
He later added: “Please nobody should beg me on behalf of this girl o. She disrespected me and I’ve placed a curse on her. No one can mess with my anointing and go scot free.”
The exchange drew thousands of reactions from Nigerians online, many of whom criticized the cleric for what they described as an abuse of spiritual authority.
Following the backlash, Abiodun issued multiple apologies on X. In one post, he wrote: “MY APOLOGIES TO tomisin IF I MAY HAVE MADE HER FEEL THREATENED. I FELT DISRESPECTED, KNOWING THE AMOUNT OF YEARS I PUT IN MEDICAL SCHOOL, COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT I’M A ROYAL PRINCE IN MY VILLAGE IN OSUN, I FOUND IT NONSENSICAL THAT SHE CALLED ME BY THE NAME MY PARENTS GAVE ME.”
He added: “I REMEMBER THAT I’M AN AMBASSADOR OF CHRIST AND MY WORDS SHOULD REFLECT & ALIGN WITH THE GOSPEL. I UNDERSTAND THAT CHANGED BEHAVIOR IS THE BEST FORM OF APOLOGY. I UNDERSTAND THAT I’M A WORK IN PROGRESS AND I HOPE YOU ALL CAN BEAR WITH ME.”
Abiodun also apologized to his family: “I ALSO WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO MY WIFE AND MOTHER OF MY BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS. BABY, I’M SORRY TO HAVE BROUGHT UNNECESSARY DRAMA & INSULTS TO YOU AND OUR FAMILY. I HOPE YOU CAN FORGIVE ME AND OUR LOVE WAX STRONGER, MY SWEETIE PIE.”
The pastor revealed that the church has taken official notice of his actions. “DUE TO RECENT ACTIONS, I’VE BEEN SUMMONED AT THE RCCG HQ TO ANSWER A QUERY ABOUT MY POSTS HERE. I KNOW THAT IT MAY RESULT IN MY SUSPENSION AS A PARISH YOUTH PASTOR. AND SO, I WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR MY PREVIOUS TWEETS AS THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THE PRINCIPLES OF RCCG AS A CHURCH,” he stated.
When a screenshot of an apology direct message he allegedly sent to Tomisin surfaced online a day before, Abiodun dismissed it as fabricated, claiming his phone storage was full and he could not have taken a screenshot. He wrote: “This is a doctored image. Pls nobody should believe her. She’s the one that begged me. I could have taken a screenshot but my phone storage is full. My anointing is real.”
